STORY

Our Story

Cafe Puro has been a staple of the Brazilian artisan coffee roasting community since 1950. For three generations we have strived to create rich, bold, and powerful flavors! Our specialty small-batch coffee beans are roasted to perfection using homemade and time-tested recipes. Whether you're looking for a delicious daily roast or one of our signature seasonal favorites, Cafe Puro has something to offer everyone. Enjoy a delectable mug of our silky smooth dry-aged coffee from the comfort of your home, or grab a cup at one of the many independently owned coffee houses we work with, around the globe.

Our coffee farm and roastery is located in the mountain flats of Muzambinho, Brazil and has been the center of coffee production since our founding. Our dedication to these lands reaches far beyond the scope of coffee as we strive to make a difference in this world. Since the beginning, we have diligently hired local farmhands and caretakers to oversee every step from seed to shipping. As a Fairtrade certified brand you can trust that every product manufactured by Cafe Puro meets the highest ethical and environmental standards. To prove this dedication, we proudly donate 50% of our annual profits to low-income assistance programs to help combat income inequality right here in Brazil. (Learn More)

In 2019 we were able to expand our operation by opening an additional processing and distribution center located in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, USA. This 60,000 square foot facility has become a hub for both wholesale and retail distribution to keep up with our increasing popularity in the United States. Through this expansion we have been lucky enough to grow our sales, grossing $6.5 million (USD) last year alone. Thanks to our dedicated consumers and coffee houses we have grown into a global name in coffee and earned such accommodations as "Best Upcoming Joe" by Forbes Small Business and "Best Roast" by the International Coffee Association. We have also been awarded over 30 first place ribbons by local and international coffee associations and roastery contests.

As with all companies, we would not be where we are without the dedication of our customers and team. After our new expansion, Cafe Puro has grown to provide full-time careers for over 50 people in Brazil and abroad. We are constantly growing our team to meet the needs of our customers and we couldn't be happier to provide stable income and benefits to some of the most amazing people we've ever met. Through them we work daily to introduce new cafe's, coffee houses, eco-conscious consumers, specialty markets, and independent coffee consumers to our amazing blends.

Thank you for your support of Cafe Puro and the work we are doing!

OUR COUNTRY

Our Country

Brazil has deep roots in global agriculture and is one of the biggest exporters of food resources. Coffee beans have been staple of agriculture exports, in-fact, since 1840, Brazil has been the largest producer of coffee in the world. Cafe Puro is detected to this rich history by creating economic, environmental, and cultural opportunities for our communities at home and abroad.

Check out this video produced by Insider, that gives you an inside look to the world of coffee production in Brazil, specificall our home of Minas Gerais!

ECONOMIC FACTORS
Like many countries, Brazil experienced a large economic deficit in early 2020 due to the ongoing pandemic. However, with a strong recovery by the end of 2020 Brazil's GPD growth is expected to reach 3.7% in 2021 and 2.5% in 2022. While exports have increased in volume and gross income, Brazil is experiencing record high income inequality and poverty. In fact, it was reported by OECD that 5% of Brazils population hold 95% of the countries wealth.

ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS

Brazil is one of the largest counties in the world but has one of the smallest carbon footprints. The low levels of air pollution is credited to conscious business and production practices and strict pollution regulations. The Brazilian rainforests are also the largest oxygen producer on the planet, with more than 2.57 million square miles of forested land. However, these beautiful forests are also one of the hottest spots for widespread deforestation and illegal logging practices because of loose import/export regulation and international timber harvesting laws.

CURRENT CULTURE

Brazil has deep cultural roots because of its deep indigenous history and tourist attractions. Events like Carnival held in Rio de Janeiro brought 10 million people to our beautiful country in 2020 alone. Life in Brazil is diverse and rich with hundreds of recognized holidays and observances stemming from tribal, Portuguese, Spanish, and French communities. With more than 60% of the population identifying as Roman Catholic, religious practices are woven into the soul of Brazil. This delightful country also boasts a wide variety of delicacies from many different people groups that all meld together into traditional Brazilian flavor profiles.

BUSINESS STRUCTURE

Opening a business in Brazil is a relatively simple process, built to promote the Brazilian economy and workforce. Unlike the USA, Brazil does not use an LLC structure, but rather an LTDA, or Limited Liability Company. Using this strategy allows for foreign residence to establish business ventures in Brazil by recognizing a commercial partnership between at least two individuals, at very minimal start-up costs. For any foreign or domestic company that. sets up shop in Brazil, a memorandum of association must be in place that lists the companies main address within Brazilian territory. This document also states that the manager must be a citizen of Brazil as well as a minimum of two quotaholders. There is not a maximum or minimum percent of interest ownership limit to these requirements.

E-COMMERCE

E-commerce is a widely rich and valuable market for any company looking to increase their online sales division. Unlike the US who employs a wide variety of restrictions and regulations on this industry, Brazil does not have any specific laws that apply to sales conducted electronically. This can give companies, especially small start-ups and opportunity to grow their marketplace and fuel their success. This is not to say that Brazil is a free-for-all, because other industry regulations still oversee online sales such as the Consumer Defense Code, Brazilian Civil Framework of the Internet, and General Data Protection Law. These important pieces of legislation protect customers data privacy and sets security standards for how personal data and payment transactions are handled, stored, and distributed. These laws also help guide companies in ethical business practices and provide accountability.

CYBER CRIME

As in all places where business is conducted, crime will follow. Cyber crime has become a recent threat to Brazilian citizen and companies in recent years, with a steady increase in crimes occurring. In 2019 alone there were a reported 875,330,000 incidents that occurred. This is compared to the 676 thousand reported in the year prior. With an increase in crime though, an increase in security has followed. It is estimated that Brazil's cyber security network brought in a revenue of over 4.7 billion dollars in 2020. This compares to the 147,300,000 breaches reported in 2019 in the US alone and projected 54.1 million dollar revenue the US is estimated to make in 2021 off of cyber security, showing Brazils commitment to online safety and security.

DATA BREACHES

The largest data breach to occur in US history was in 2013 when hackers were able to infiltrate Yahoo and expose 3 billion records. These records included personal data of users around the world such as emails, phone numbers and birthdays. For Brazil, a data breach that just happened in January of 2021 is credited as the largest in the countries history. With more than 220 million people and 40 million companies impacted, the victims of this attack actually out-numbers the population of Brazil. This incident is still under investigation, and it is still unknown who perpetrated this crime, and how they were able to access the information.
